The first part of the conversion was the planning.
Many plans where considered, the main ideas coming from my
very good friend Roy, who has an exceptional talent for planning motor home
conversions .
One of the main considerations was for a fixed bed, as the van was to be
used both as a day to day vehicle, and also as a Motorhome, and I did not
want to have to keep making the bed up.
We decided after much measuring to site the bed across the rear doors, at a
higher level than is normal, to allow storage, water tank, gas cabinet etc.
to be sited below. This also allowed, due to the curvature of the van body a
longer bed at 6' 2". (see picture 1)
As can be seen from the plan (click
for larger image) the layout apart from the bed is fairly compact, the
water tanks, fridge, gas bottle store, and slide out "port potty" are all
mounted under the bed.
The water heater and blown air space heater are situated under the sink,
mounted onto the floor (click here for details)
Once the vehicle is complete it will be re-registered with the DVLA as Body
type "Motor caravan". For the guidance notes from VOSA,
