Well the first holiday in the van, in Exmouth in Devon was a
real winner, apart from the weather, but more on that later.
Of course, at this stage as can be seen from the
pictures, the van is not
complete, but is very usable. The holiday was located on a National Trust
camp site "Prattshayes Farm" in Devon, run by a great couple Mary and Frank.
The site has 30 pitches, all on grass, some with electric hookup and running
water.
We traveled down from the Midlands taking some four and a half hours, with a
stop on the M5 at Michel Wood Services, for a coffee and to work the dog. I
went down in my van with Oscar the dog, and the 2 cats Molly and George.
Oscar travels on his own seat with traveling harness, and the cats travel
in a large pet traveling cage. My friend Roy, also holidayed with us, but he
traveled down earlier in his van, and we met on the site.
Once on site, it was all hands to the pump, to get parked up, get the awning
set up, and the kettle on. Although the cats had other ideas and just went
off to explore. Many people may think it is odd to take the cats away with
us, but they love it. They are used to traveling, and treat each site as
there own.
While on site, we used my van and the awning as "base
camp", and used my friend Roy's van as transport.
During the three weeks we where on holiday, the weather to say the least was
a bit "mixed", but in the most part if did not keep us in, or away from the
beach wish was only about 1 mile away. This was Oscar the dog's favorite
spot!
If you ever visit the camp site, you must try Mary's (the
warden) cream teas, delicious!. On most days she also does full English
breakfasts and evening meals, all at very reasonable prices, and excellent
quality.
